Photography Trends In 2022

Wow. It seems like just yesterday I was examining Photography Trends in 2021 and setting goals for the year ahead. 2021 has truly been a fantastic period of growth for me as an artist, and I can’t wait to continue that growth in 2022! One of my favorite ways to prepare for the New Year is looking at the upcoming photography trends:

Muted Colors

Muted colors are making a comeback! This photography trend is expected to become increasingly popular in 2022, as many look to give an old-school vibe to their photos. We saw this trend pretty heavily on social media in 2021, but we’re now seeing muted colors become more prevalent in the lifestyle photography realm as well.

High Drama

High drama photography is expected to dominate 2022. We’ve seen this trend in the print photography industry for many years, but it’s now seeping into mainstream photoshoots for things like couple’s photos, weddings, maternity shoots, and more. High drama photography includes elements that almost don’t look real, striking or unusual colors, beautiful natural elements such as colorful skies, bold lighting effects, and more.

Rustic Backgrounds

Backgrounds that have a natural appeal are taking the photography world by storm right now. You can achieve a rustic feel in lifestyle photography by setting the scene with trees, grass, rocks, logs, and other elements of nature.

Inclusivity & Diversity

This is a trend I’m happy to see and love to capture myself. More and more photoshoots are being carried out with inclusiveness and diversity in mind, both in print and on social media. We’re guaranteed to see this photography trend continue to blow up in 2022.

Capturing Life

As time goes on, I think more and more people are turning to photography as a way to preserve all of their moments, striving to capture every detail (no matter how big or small). This trend is near and dear to my heart because I have found myself doing the same thing as a mom, using photography as a way to document every detail of my daughters’ lives. I expect this photography trend to continue well beyond 2022!
